Nothing too eventful today, as food wise we’re having pretty much the same thing and hair growth is going slow and steady.

Meal #1: Breakfast

Same as yesterday, we had:

  • 2 teaspoons of Nature’s Path Whole O’s
  • 1/3 avocado diced
  • Few almonds, walnuts and GF sprouted pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup organic cow milk
  • 1 teaspoon Nordic Naturals Baby DHA Liquid

Meal #2: Lunch

It was a simple lunch, she had:

  • A handful of green beans boiled with some salt and olive oil
  • 1/2 ear of corn cooked in pork bone broth
  • 1 soft-boiled free range egg

For snack, she had a satsuma mandarin and a piece of OKA artisan cheese. I don’t think there’s a way to stop her from the cheese now, so I’m going to let this one slide while we figure things out.

Meal #3: Dinner

We have leftover from yesterday’s dinner, except served with penne pasta. She loves anything that is tomato-base, so she gulped her dinner down in no time.

Earlier in the afternoon, we made a batch of gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. She had one cookie after dinner.

Tip #1: Involve your child in preparing gluten-free food

Getting the little one involved by asking them to help out in making your gluten-free food, snack or treat is a great way to slowly get this new diet plan into their head. I had told her that I’d be making her gluten-free cookies, so she was anticipating it.

I let her sit high enough to see the mixer in action, talking to her along the way about how we’re going to stay away from gluten for now to see if that helps her grow her hair better. She helped out with folding in chocolate chips into the cookie dough afterwards, so she was really involved with the whole process and knew exactly what we were doing and why we were doing it. We do bake at home every once in a while, so it’s nothing new, except that now I’m introducing the concept of gluten-free more and more.

She was excited to taste the result, but we had made a deal that she was only going to have the cookie after she finished dinner, because… she needed to get all the nutrition from dinner so that she could grow tall and smart 🙂 Agreeing on things beforehand always works better with this one, rather than fighting over things when she already sets her mind on it.

The best gluten-free, high protein and low sugar chocolate chip cookies

Yield: 12-20

The best gluten-free, high protein and low sugar chocolate chip cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup gluten-free flour or quinoa flour (I use Bob's Red Mill)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 cup raw brown sugar (I use demerara sugar)
  • 1 free range egg
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (I use virgin and unrefined) in cool, liquid state
  • A handful of gluten-free chocolate chips
  • 2 tsp vanilla (optional)

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • 2. Whisk flour, salt and baking soda together in a bowl. Set aside.
  • 3. In another bowl, mix coconut oil and sugar. I use my Kitchenaid mixer for this. Once thoroughly combined, add in egg and vanilla, and continue to mix until well combined.
  • 4. Add in flour mixture and mix until combined.
  • 5. Fold chocolate chips into the dough.
  • 6. Drop 1/2 tbsp to 1 tbsp of cookie dough on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 2 inches of space in between as dough will expand and flatten out when baked.
  • 7. Bake for 8 minutes or so if you want chewy cookies, and about 11-13 minutes if you want crunchier cookies. Check during the process as baking time may vary depending on your oven.

Topical treatment

As usual, weekday topical treatment is organic ginger juice with a few drops of cedarwood essential oils + cypress or lemon essential oils. I added one drop of geranium essential oil today too.

Today’s status

When applying her topical treatment, I notice a small spot of thinning hair toward the frontal part of the right parietal ridge, so I applied more solution on that part. I don’t know if it’s a new spot or just something I hadn’t noticed before.

Around the hairline, I notice a ton of baby hairs. It looks like they are new growth so I made a mental note to make a little more ginger solution to apply on that area tomorrow.

All other patches seem to be showing new growth on a slow and steady pace, especially on the left and right parietal ridge, as well as the lower crown and occipital bone areas.

Project End Alopecia (Gluten-Free): Day 4

As you can see, the right parietal ridge area is showing encouraging signs of regrowth, and the left parietal ridge is looking good with new growth looking more like a bunch of short hair already. The lower crown and occipital bone area is growing slowly but surely, although the lower part (nape area) still needs some time.
